We all know that Holland is a great country, crisscrossed by canals, packed with coffee shops and blooming with tulips. But it may come as a surprise to learn that Miffy, the celebrity bunny rabbit, is also Dutch. Or rather, the creator of this cute bunny is Dutch. Dick Bruna is a world famous artist renowned for his simple, yet direct graphics.
Bruna created the first sketches of this character back in 1955, which ever since has been a reference for young and old alike. Sketches based on the imaginary adventures of a bunny rabbit that the artist used to tell his son at bedtime. Perhaps that’s why the tales are still so popular with tiny tots.

We want to tell you about what inspired us to design Eight (clothing for practising yoga, Pilates or simply relaxing in our modern, comfortable designs): Endorphins. Endorphins are proteins produced by our bodies and which have seemingly magical powers, capable of producing that sensation of wellbeing and enthusiasm for life. It’s as simple as that!
They were discovered during research into the effects of morphine. Because the only receptors our body has are those it produces, researchers realised that there must be internal substances similar to this drug. And so they discovered that endorphins (‘endo-morphines’) are our way of dealing with pain. Without them, even the slightest brush would be painful.

A few years ago it was considered fashionable for mums and daughters to dress alike. Mums wanted their little girls to look just like them. A trend that eventually disappeared but is now back in fashion. That’s the thing about trends – they come and go, driving us crazy. And now, all the luxury fashion brands have jumped on the band wagon, and are producing identical styles for big and little girls.
But here at women’secret we’ve always believed that offering mums the chance to share a few looks with their little ones is ‘kinda cute’. Many of our adult collections are reflected in the collections designed for little girls. Put your hand up if you’ve never scratched the parquet flooring with your big sister’s high heels? Who’s never got their mum’s lipstick all over the sofa? After all, imitation is an essential part of growing up. I watch and copy. Watch and copy.

Burlesque is the art of seduction in its purest form. Nothing can be sexier than seeing a girl dressed in fabulously suggestive lingerie on stage. Many years ago in the USA burlesque shoes were on the bill at highly respectable theatres in cities such as New York or Seattle. They attracted wide range of audiences who loved these fun, cheeky shows that were suitable for all. Burlesque first appeared back in the early 20th century as a combination of vaudeville and music hall.
Dita Von Teese – that daring and bold woman who seems to be following in the footsteps of the pin up sensation Betty Page – has a lot to do with the recent resurgence of the burlesque style. Today’s pin ups have vamped up the glamour of yesteryear with sexily suggestive lingerie that gets the imagination racing. Gorgeous girls, proud of their bodies, are rediscovering corsets and other fine lingerie garments.
Hot Secret is bang on trend, taking its inspiration from the 1940s silver screen: garments with nude trims with black lace tracing tantalising patterns. Satin and gauze, hooks and eyes and elastic… and a few other designs that are guaranteed to create a sensation!
Would you like to be the new Betty Page? Give someone a fabulous surprise with this new collection.

Today we want to recommend a different kind of film: La teta asustada (The Scared Breast). Behind this haunting, mysterious title lies the story of a girl from the slums of Lima who finds herself trapped in a labyrinth of fears and superstitions, “the scared breast syndrome”. With few resources, a deep secret and the burden of terror that accompanies her everywhere, the main character (Fausta) has to move forward by seizing the reins of her life. It is a lovely, moving film, full of sensitive and yet surrealistic experiences, which will spirit you away to a world where other rules and other dreams reign.
