Fantastic Design Works Co. is a Tokyo-based studio specialising in restaurant design.
Its projects are overflowing with fantasy, and look more like something straight out of a Disneyland resort that a run-of-the-mill restaurant. Like this one, inspired by a setting from Alice in Wonderland:
Others are a bit more traditional, but even the more abstract premises that are a far cry from the typical Japanese themes manage to exude a sense of calm serenity. So how do they do it? Even the crazy topsy-turvy world of Alice in Wonderland evokes a sense of comfort and calm, apart from lots of fun and laughter. The attention to detail is amazing, with a place for everything. They manage to combine classic oriental elements with modern-day Japanese trends.
The studio has a blog where they post all the things that inspire them. It looks great…but it’s all in Japanese!
