Winners of the womensecret.com christmas dessert recipe competition

WINNERS OF THE WOMENSECRET.COM CHRISTMAS DESSERT RECIPE COMPETITION

We’ve selected the winners of the Sweet Sweet Christmas Competition launched on our website last month. As we announced, we’ve selected 20 finalists and their delicious recipes, who will all be receiving a cute kitchen accessories set.

The hardest part of all was choosing just two from the twenty mouth-watering recipes that made the finals, and that would be also receiving a selection of kitchen items from the same collection. Thinking about those delicious recipes all day long was sheer torture!

So here they are: one simple recipe for those who aren’t quite so nifty in the kitchen and another more elaborate one. But they’re both absolutely delicious!

The sales crazy syndrome

NEVER BEEN LUCKY IN A COMPETITION?
NEVER WON THE LOTTERY EITHER?

We finally meet them! Who? Those ‘prize winners’ whose luck we never seem to share…

We bet you get the feeling that you never win anything: competitions, the lottery, prizes in general… nothing. So today we’ve decided to show you the faces that DO win. We’ve put faces to the names of the winners of one of the women’secret competitions that have been held this spring.

We’ve run several competitions so far this season and they’ve all been a great success. We’ve given away clothes from the online store with our Show it with a smile competition as well as a couple of suitcases packed with w’s items in the Destination Holidays competition. In addition, we’ve organised a draw for a trip to Costa Rica with all expenses paid, two suitcases and 1000 euros spending money for wow club members (sorry girls, for the time being, this is only available in Spain).

So the next time we organise a competition, make sure you’re one of the entrants, because YOU COULD WELL BE A WINNER!

Here’s the postcard that the winner of the trip to Costa Rica, María del Mar Arcos, and her companion, sent us while they were on holiday… we’ve turned green with envy!

The sales crazy syndrome

THE SALES CRAZY SYNDROME

Are you a victim too?

To date there are no scientific studies to back up our claims, but our experience shows that there’s a direct link between the start of the sales and women’s sudden loss of control over our ability to say no (or over our credit cards).

It’s true that there are some who are immune to this momentary madness. But let’s be honest, you can probably count them on the fingers of one hand! For most of us, sale time gets our pulse racing and there’s just no stopping it! We simply have to visit the sales to “see if we can spot any bargains”. And naturally, if you’re the first in the queue, then you most certainly will!

The girls at women’secret are really smart, and we always like to be first in everything ;) . So there’s been no messing about. We’ve quite simply gone crazy with this online sales shopping thing. And naturally that includes a real spree at our virtual store. Because sale time is the perfect excuse for a little retail therapy; especially in this day and age, when the crisis seems to have held us back a bit this spring. Now’s the time to renew our wardrobe, filling it with underwear, bikinis, beachwear…

women'secret and top level sailing competitions

WOMEN’SECRET AND TOP LEVEL SAILING COMPETITIONS

Eight women. Eight elite sporting figures. Eight courageous women whose goal is to better their own personal best year after year.

Together they make up the “Maltesers Female Team”, the first elite sailing team made up entirely of women. Eight top level crew members: renowned sporting figures such as Natalia Vía Dufresne and Blanca Fernández Ochoa plus several Olympic medal winners. But they won’t be competing alone, as women’secret and the Spanish Breast Cancer Foundation will be sponsoring their venture and sharing their enthusiasm with them.

This year they’ll be taking part in HM The Queen’s Cup and the King’s Cup in Spain, as well as in the World Sailing Cup, traditionally male-dominated events. That’s quite a challenge! Yet this team has managed to earn the respect of the other teams. Their secret? Enthusiasm, commitment, complicity and above all lots of hard work. If these are qualities you share, then the Maltesers Female Team would like to invite you to share their adventure with them: they’re looking for girls like you, ready to take on a challenge. Together with a friend, you could be part of their team and take part in the King’s Sailing Cup in Palma de Mallorca this August. You’ll also receive a w’s suitcase packed with Maltesers chocolates. Fancy being part of a unique and truly special adventure? All you have to do is go to malterserfemaleteam.com to find out full details of how you can take part. And if you can’t be there in person, then you can always give your support for this super team: go to their website to cheer them on, and in return you’ll receive an exclusive bracelet.

The online store image factory

THE ONLINE STORE IMAGE FACTORY

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes at an online store? When you enter a high street store you can look around, touch, smell and feel the garments…but what about when you visit an online store? The buying sensations in these two types of store are radically different, and very often the motivation varies as well. But despite these differences, the essential idea is to make sure that when you visit the online store, you can get a good idea of the product and imagine the textures and sensations…Our aim is for the experience to be similar to shopping at a high street store…and of course, for you to click on the buy now button.

The place where we create all these images is a photographic studio that has become like a second home for us. We spend hours and hours there, working on photo shoots that leave us feeling exhausted, under the watchful eye of Marisa, our stylist. But they’re also lots of fun: there’s music, delicious things to eat, prepared specially for us by Sergio, the photographer, and lots of fun and games!

Summer photo shoot

SUMMER PHOTO SHOOT

Not long ago we flew to Fuerteventura for the summer collections photo shoot. (Check out the ‘making of‘ here on our website). Carry on reading to find out more about what goes on during a women’secret photo shoot.

Although we always take great care over the preparations, there’s just no stopping those butterflies fluttering about in our stomachs as we wait to board the flight. What we will do if it the weather’s awful? Will the team get on? After all, with just two days time is tight, there are loads of styles to photograph, and some of us have never met before…so how will things turn out?

We arrive at Las Gaviotas Apartments. Lluis, our manager, made sure there was a warm welcome waiting for us, and we’d like to thank Monica and Marisol for all the trouble they went to and their patience. They were happy to let us move the furniture around and didn’t bat an eyelid at all our weird and wonderful requests!

A guide to new year’s resolutions

A GUIDE TO NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS

We try not to do it, not to fall into the tired old cliches, but most of us can’t help but take advantage of the turn of the year, a symbolic date indeed, to make New Year’s resolutions. Actually, it’s not a bad idea, because they say that the hardest part of change is realising that it’s needed; after that, you just have to make it happen. Here most of us have at least owned up to the clear intention to become less sedentary. For some that means joining a gym before the month is out, while others are planning to travel to the office by bike every day.

That’s how we got onto the subject of good bust support when engaging in sports, something we tend to forget about without realising that it’s at least as important as wearing the right shoes. You have to choose a bra according to the level of impact, one that protects the bust from sudden and repeated movements. And don’t forget: leave out the underwires when doing sports! You could hurt yourself. In MY BASICS we have two bra designs intended for sports use which allow you the utmost freedom of movement combined with complete security. They have anatomical backs and straps, and the fabric is treated to wick away moisture and prevent odour. Now you know: for moderate or strenuous sports, we’ve got the perfect solution for you.

And if your resolution has nothing to do with exercise, you could still resolve to always wear the bra that best fits your bust: the right size and level of support. We can talk about this at length another time.

Snowdoll

SNOWDOLL

Are we complaining about the cold? But it’s only been winter for a few days! Thoughts about sandals and flavour of the sea are forbidden. Winter holds its own alternative delight. Look inside yourself for that hankering to head to the mountains to make a snowman. And instead if you find your hibernating instinct, with the temptation to sit down and wait until spring comes, get inventive! Don a pretty scarf, a fun hat and go out for a walk, a trip, an outing to the snow.

Today we suggest a collection to help you feel like a snowman: Snowdoll. White and black, scarves, hats, gloves, socks, bags, wallets… Fun ideas to give away or to keep your body and soul warm and toasty.

To take a look: womensecret.com

Welcome, winter. We love you, too.

Suggested by… you

SUGGESTED BY… YOU

We’re going to try to get you to suggest topics for this blog. Let’s see how we’re going to accomplish this:

Every now and then surely you’ve left the movie theatre with a floating, unreal sensation and for days scenes from the movie replay in your mind. Other times, not very often either, sure you’ve been reading a book, devouring it like it was your first novel, and when you finish it you feel ridiculously empty. It’s also rare, although it does happen, that while walking around a city other than your own you enter a café and without meaning to you get trapped there for hours because of its cosiness, the people or that authentic something that certain places have.

So, the next time something similar happens you in a train, in a shop,on a street, with a landscape or with a catchprase or website… When something gets you excited or inspired, or makes you sigh, tell us about it! We promise that no matter how much we want to, we won’t keep it a secret.

Maybe right at this instant something has occurred to you that you’d like to share with others. Jot it down before you lose it and send it to blog.ws@womensecret.com

Photos are welcome, too.
